HUMPBACK ROCKS VISITOR CENTER

Milepost 5.2, Blue Ridge Parkway
5.8 miles south of I-64 where it crosses the intersection of Skyline Drive
and Blue Ridge Parkway.
PARKING: 1 wheelchair accessible parking space.
ENTRANCE: Adjacent to parking lot. Entry doors easily open out.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: Located at visitor center. Doors are 42 inches wide,
and open in. Turns to enter. Accessible stalls have 42 inch wide doors opening
out and handrails. 19 inch toilet seat height, and 15 inches between commode
edge and wall. Sink height is 30 inches. Accessible stall checked regularly
for obstructions.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This is a visitor center operated by the Blue
Ridge Parkway, a unit of the National Park Services, as a comfort station,
museum, and sales of interpretive materials (books, tapes and maps) to the
visiting public. Open 9AM-5PM, May-October.
HUMPBACK ROCKS PIONEER FARM

PARKING: 1 wheelchair accessible parking space.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Farm is a relocated-restored typical 1890 mountain
farm, complete with cabin, out buildings and kitchen garden.
TYPES OF PATHS: Visitor center and approach to farm hard surface. Path
at farm is gravel.
ENTRANCE: Located south of visitor center. 2 exterior steps, each 12
inches in height. Entry doors, open in.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: At visitor center. Doors open in. No turns to enter.
Accessible stalls have 42 inch wide doors opening out, and handrails. 19 inch
toilet seat height, 15 inches between commode and wall. Sink height is 30
inches. Accessible stalls checked regularly for obstructions.
SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with mobility impairments, the paths are gravel, and do
have steep grades requiring assistance for persons in wheelchairs. Paths 150
yards long. Special guide book for guests with disabilities (fee charged).

Milepost 176. Turn off Parkway at roadside to cabins. Continue 0.5 mile to
junction of VA 728. Entrance to Cabins across 728 and slightly to the left.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Historic Gristmill (1910), sawmill, blacksmith
shop and other outdoor exhibits. Cultural demonstrations in summer and fall.
PARKING: 5 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.
TYPES OF PATHS: Entire trail is paved or flagstones. No steep grades.
The mill can be viewed from either end of trail. There is a set of stairs
to climb over the mill flume. Handicapped parking for Historic Area is in
Overflow Parking area in front of accessible rest rooms. Short
portion of trail leading from parking lot to exhibits is gravel. Paths are
0.5 to 1 mile long.
ENTRANCE: Located north end of mill. Doors always open if mill is open.
Entry doors, 33 inches wide, open in with pull handle. 3 interior steps inside
lobby located between entrance and exit. Each step is 8 inches high. Historic
buildings have wooden, unpainted floors. Blacksmith shop has wide path, no
steps. Matthews Cabin has 34 inches entrance with ramp.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: In parking lot. Doors are 36 inches wide, open out.
No turns to enter womens, 90 degree turn to mens. Accessible stalls have 32
inch wide doors opening out, and handrails. 15 inches between toilet and wall.
Sink height 32 inches. Pipes wrapped. Accessible stall checked regularly for
obstructions.
SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual impairments, there are hands-on exhibits, and
documents in large print on non-glossy surface.
GIFT SHOP: Aisles 36-48 inches wide. Counters 48 inches high. Clerks
assist customers with special needs. Aisles clear of temporary displays.

wide, open in. Turns to enter. Accessible stalls have 36 inch wide doors opening
in and handrails. 11 inches between commode and wall. Sink height is 34 inches.
Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.

For guests with hearing impairments, written scripts and Assistive
Listening System are available.
For guests with mobility impairments, there is accessible seating for

PUCKETT CABIN HISTORICAL EXHIBIT

PARKING: 3 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Aunt Orlena Puckett assisted in the delivery of
over a thousand mountain babies. One room cabin belonged to the Puckett family.
TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION: Paved walks.
SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing impairments, there are roadside written scripts.
For guests with visual impairments, there are hands-on exhibits, all
outdoors and easily touched, and documents and signage in large print on non-glossy
surface.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Park ranger occasionally on site.

ENTRANCE: Main lodge. Entry doors, 40 inches wide, easily open out
with metal pull handle located 45 inches above floor.
FACILITIES: Luggage handling available. 18 steps from the lobby level
to the lounge, meeting rooms and other public rooms. To access these rooms,
guests in wheelchairs must go outside to use the entrance on ground level.
Non-smoking rooms available.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: In main lodge. Doors 32 inches wide, open out. Turns
to enter. Accessible stalls have 41 inch wide doors, and handrails. 15 inches
between commode and wall. Sink height 31 inches. Accessible stall checked
regularly for obstructions.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Ramps are provided. Entry doors, 32 inches wide, easily
open in and out with pull down handle located 37 inches above floor. 2 wheelchair
accessible rooms, each with 2 double beds on frames with no obstruction beneath.
Cots available. Unneeded furniture removed upon request. Sill at bathroom
door three quarters of a inch high. Bathroom door is 33 inches wide. Grab
bar in tub. Handrail with the toilet. Room numbers with raised markings. Lever
handles on doors. Extended drapery rod pulls.

PARKING: 1 wheelchair accessible parking space.
ENTRANCE: Office entrance separate from cabin entrances. 2 exterior
steps, each 2 and 8 inches in height. Entry door, 32 inches wide, easily opens
in with knob handle located 33 inches above floor.
ACCOMMODATIONS: 1 cabin with ramp and 2 with 6 inch step at entrance.
2 double beds, on frames with no obstruction beneath, in each cabin. Cots
and rollaways available. Unneeded furniture removed upon request. 60 inch
circular clear space in room. Lowered light switches. Cabins share a central
restroom and shower facility - shower and shower controls not accessible.
Mens is at ground level. Womens ramped. Turns required to enter
both. Stalls have 32 inch doors opening out. 10 inches between commode and
wall. Sink height 28 inches. Showers have 8 inch threshold.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Credit cards: V, AE, MC, and DS. Deposit required
to confirm reservation, 48 hour cancellation policy. Check-in 4PM, check-out
11AM. Appalachian style wood frame cabins built by CCC in the 1930s.
