HUNGRY MOTHER STATE PARK

I-81, Exit 47. Approximately one mile on Route 11 toward Marion. Right on
Route 16 North and four miles to park.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 2200 acres, lake, fishing, paddle boats, row boats,
camping, cabins, trails, horseback riding, restaurant, boat ramp, accessible
fishing pier and interpretive programing.
PARKING: 19 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.
TYPES OF PATHS: Asphalt and gravel paths have steep grades requiring
assistance for persons in wheelchairs.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: Located Lot #3, near restaurant, and bath houses.
Doors 36 inches wide, open out. Accessible stalls have 36 inch wide doors
opening out, and handrails. 19 inch toilet seat height.
PUBLIC TELEPHONE: At park office, restaurant and parking Lot #3.
SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing impairments, there are signing interpreters available
with advance notice.
For guests with visual impairments, there are signs with contrasting background,
printed on a non-glossy surface.
GIFT SHOP: At park restaurant. Clerks assist customers with special
needs. Aisles clear of temporary displays.
PICNIC AREAS: In wooded areas throughout park. Asphalt trail to covered
shelters.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Junior Naturalist, day or night walks, campfire
and amphitheater programs, childrens programs and canoe tours. Open
summer, swimming beach with bathhouse and concession. Third weekend in July
is park arts and crafts festival.

DESCRIPTION: 43 sites in 3 areas. 32 with water and electric hookups,
11 no hookups.
BATH HOUSE AND REST ROOMS: All 3 areas have bath house and rest rooms.
A bath house is accessible to wheelchairs. Roll-in shower.
DESCRIPTION OF ACTUAL SITE: Campground B has asphalted sites, roadway
and a few pull through sites. Dump station at park office.
PUBLIC TELEPHONE: None in campground.
SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual impairments, there are signs with contrasting color.
PICNIC AREAS: Each site has picnic tables and fire rings.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Must be 18 to rent site. Sites designed for
use by a maximum of 6 people. One vehicle in addition to camping unit permitted
per site. Maximum camping stay per park is 14 days in 30 day period. Check-out
4PM. Laundry sinks for washing clothes.

ACCOMMODATIONS: 20 cabins. Cabin #19, gravel parking area with wooden
ramp to cabin entrance. Double bed and cots in cabins. Bathroom door is 36
inches wide. Sink pipes wrapped. Wheelchair accessible toilet is 19 inches
high with room for lateral transfer. Handrail with toilet.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Available March-November, on weekly and daily
basis. Check-in 3PM, check-out 10AM. Cabins rented daily for a minimum of
2 nights, with one month advance notice. Rustic furniture, fireplace. Appliances,
kitchenware and linens included in rental.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Headquarters for Smyth County Historical and Museum
Society - Exhibits on Lieutenant Governor L. P. Collins II, Lieutenant Governor
B. F. Buchanan and Sheffey and Staley families.
PARKING: Located on street or next door in lot. Nearby ramps well marked.
RV parking.
TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION: Sidewalk is concrete. Paths
accessible to persons with mobility impairments. Length of paths 10 feet.
ENTRANCE: Located front. 3 exterior steps, each 8 inches high. 2 entry
doors, 39 inches wide, easily open out with knob handle located 33 inches
above floor. Door bell 35 inches high.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: Located 1st floor. Doors 33 inches wide, open in.
No turns to enter. Sink height 31 inches. Accessible stall checked regularly
for obstructions. Unisex or companion assisted rest rooms available.
ELEVATOR: Located front hall. Serves all levels. Operator assisted.
PUBLIC TELEPHONE: Accessible phones in office. No public phone.
SPECIAL SERVICES:

in height. Handrails on left and right. Ramps provided. Entry doors easily
open out with thumb latch handle. Glass doors have handles clearly marked
in contrasting color.
FACILITIES: 5 steps leading to meeting rooms and other public rooms.
Ramps provided. Signage is printed in contrasting colors.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: In sports area of Hungry Mother Park and Ferrell
Hall. Doors are 36 inches wide, and open out. Turns to enter. Accessible stalls
have 60 inch wide doors opening in and handrails. 19 inch toilet seat height.
Pipes are wrapped. Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.
PUBLIC TELEPHONE: Wheelchair accessible phone. Amplified phone. TTY.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Located in Chestnut Lodge, Pines Cabins 1-5. 14 wheelchair
accessible rooms have double and/or single beds. Unnecessary furniture can
be removed. 60 inch circular clear space in some cabins and in bathroom. Grab
bar in tub. Roll-in showers. Hand held shower heads. Sink pipes wrapped. Handrail
with toilet. Wheelchair can be parked beside the toilet for a lateral transfer
(32 inch minimum). No phones in cabins. Lever handles on doors in Pines Cabins
1-5.
RESTAURANT: 10 tables for guests in wheelchairs, in main room. Table
height is 26 inches, aisle width between tables is 36 inches. Menus are available
on non-glossy surface.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Accepted credit cards V and MC. Check-in 4PM,
check-out 10AM.
